I asked her to do a fashion-related interview with me and I was thrilled she said yes!

Here's the interview--

Me: What is a typical outfit for Ever?

Alyson: In EVERMORE, Ever dresses to hide. She's burdened with tremendous psychic powers she doesn't want and has no idea how to handle them, so she chooses baggy jeans and hoodies in an attempt to go unnoticed, dark sunglasses to cut the glare of all the auras and spirits she sees floating around, and iPod earbuds that are practically implanted in her head to drown out all the swirling thoughts that surround her. It's defensive dressing at it's best!

Alyson:In BLUE MOON she's learned to deal with her gifts and is coming into her own, and is often found wearing the comfy, casual, chic looks that are popular in Laguna Beach where she lives.

My interpretation of Ever in Blue Moon

Different from Ever in Evermore,right?

Me: What is Ever wearing this evening?

Alyson: Well, it's a hot summer night and she's in her backyard, hanging by the pool with Miles and Haven and of course, Damen, so she's wearing a really cute bikini under a blue sundress (blue to set off her eyes) thats made of a soft cotton jersey with twisted, Grecian style, straps and a deep V-neck. She's also wearing gold Haviana flip-flops but she keeps kicking them off to dip her feet in the water.

My Interpretation

I couldn't find blue, , so I used green, , !

Me: Is Ever's style influenced by traumatic events?

Alyson:In EVERMORE, definitely. She uses her clothing to try to hide from the world, but the irony is it only makes her more visible to mean girls like Stacia and Honor who love to make fun of her.

Me: If you could describe Ever's style in one word what would it be?

Alyson:In EVERMORE- Hide-n-Go-Chic

In BLUE MOON- Casual-Cool

Me: When you were a teen, was your style similar to Ever's current style or was it the complete opposite?

Alyson: Total opposite. I was really, really into fashion and devoured Vogue magazine like candy. I dressed in a very trendy, kind of theatrical, notice-me way.

Me: Does your current style influence Ever's?

Alyson:I'm not sure if it's me exactly or the fact that we both live in Laguna Beach. There's a pervasive, cool, casual, look that blends really well with a coastal lifestyle where you can go just about anywhere in a cute dress and flip-flops, which we both do!

Me: Does your current style influence other characters, Riley, Damen, Haven, Miles, Stacia, etc.?

Alyson:Well, Damen has a sleek, sophisticated look that I really like and that suits someone who's been around for six hundred years; Miles, dresses nice, but sort of average for someone his age for an actor he doesn't experiment as much as you'd think he keeps it pretty basic; Stacia and Honor are dedicated followers of trends and complete label whores; and Haven's the most fun of all since she tries to define herself through her clothes and is game for pretty much anything. And while she went through a Goth phase in EVERMORE, at the moment I'm writing book #4 (no title yet!) and she's going for a sort of post apocalyptic-rock n roll gypsy-vintage chic-phase if there is such a thing!

Me: Do other characters in the books influence Ever's style?

Alyson:While Ever's aware of what's in and what's out and what her classmates are wearing, she's so burdened with the huge predicaments she finds herself in that she has little time to focus on her clothes and dresses mostly to cover herself in a cute, comfortable way,though she does make an effort to look good for Damen!

Me:Since I didn't really ask you anything that told anything about the book here's one question that's completely book related-

Does Ever's name contribute to the story?(Ever being immortal and all)

Alyson:Definitely. I like unusual names and take great care in choosing them, making sure they fit the characters I'm creating. And even though the first book in the series is titled EVERMORE, her name came long before the title!

Me: And, okay, two questions,

What is Ever's middle name? (Random question, I know, I just always wonder if she has a middle name or if she doesn't. I don't have a middle name. Nothing goes with my full name, Jesslyn. Does Damen have a middle name?) Ok three questions..

Alyson:Even though it never comes up in the books, I always think of Ever's middle name first as K, and then K for Katherine,so yeah, I guess it's Ever K (Katherine) Bloom. As for Damen, well, more on his name will be revealed in future books, so stay tuned!
